Manchester United secured a vital 2-0 victory over Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday in a Premier League clash.

United head coach Ruben Amorim made five changes to his side that lost 3-1 to Brentford last weekend.

Senne Lammens was the most notable addition, making his debut after £18.2 million transfer this summer.

Bryan Mbeumo and Mason Mount combined to put the Red Devils ahead early in the contest.

Benjamin Sesko doubled United’s lead which forced Sunderland manager to make a tactical substitution in the first half.

The second half lacked the spark from either side, but United held firm to secure the 2-0 win and keep Amorim’s job intact.

Player Ratings

Senne Lammens – 8/10

keep watching

Lammens made a brilliant diving save to deny Xhaka from distance and earned a warm ovation from the Old Trafford crowd after claiming a high ball.

He made another fine save in the injury time by coming out quickly and closing the angle.

Leny Yoro – 8/10

Yoro marked his return to the XI with an underlapping run in the build-up to Sesko’s strike. The teenager showed smart game awareness to clear danger a couple of times in the box.

Matthijs de Ligt – 7/10

Rarely troubled at the heart of the defence but did well when called upon.

Luke Shaw – 6/10

A solid outing for Shaw defensively but still unable to progress the ball forward through central areas.

Amad Diallo – 7/10

The Ivorian made a fine run from right and pulled off a brilliant save from Roefs in the first half. He completed all 20 of his passes before the break but lost intensity in the second half.

Diogo Dalot – 4/10

He was caught ball-watching in the third minute but spared by the offside flag. He looked rusty in possession and was hooked by Amorim on the hour.

Casemiro – 5/10

The veteran picked up a needless yellow for a rash challenge he was never winning. Kept his passing tidy but lacked his usual vertical threat from deep.

Bruno Fernandes – 7/10

The United captain nearly put his side 2-0 up but his graceful chip shot hit the bar.

Mason Mount – 9/10

A sublime left-footed touch set up a clinical right-footed strike. The 26-year-old looked composed on the ball throughout and showed exactly why Amorim trusts him.

Bryan Mbeumo – 7/10

Mbeumo continued his fine form with a clever pass to set up Mount’s goal. He had a couple of half-chances but could not make them count.

Benjamin Sesko – 8/10

A superb switch of play to release Diallo to attack on Sunderland’s goal. He showed a typical striker’s instinct to score from the six yards.

Substitutions

Matheus Cunha – 5/10

Had a shot on target.

Patrick Dorgu – 5/10

Didn’t do any better than Dalot in the final third.

Kobbie Mainoo – 5/10

Did nothing noticable.

Manuel Ugarte – NA

Too late to rate.

Harry Maguire – NA

Too late to rate.
