Manchester United have turned around their fortunes in the Premier League and are now in the top six, but they could be without Bryan Mbeumo for up to six games
They’re aiming for a fourth consecutive win when they take on Nottingham Forest this Saturday. Following a shaky start to the season, there were rumours that Amorim might get the sack, but it seems United have turned things around. They’ve clinched their last three matches, including a 2-1 victory over arch-rivals Liverpool, and are beginning to feel the impact of their new summer signings
.Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha both scored in their last match against Brighton and will be hoping to maintain this momentum when the Red Devils face Forest. However, Amorim will soon be without star forward Mbeumo, who only joined this summer from Brentford for an initial £65million.
Mbeumo has hit his stride under Amorim and already boasts four league goals. But just as he’s starting to bond with his new teammates, the club will have to do without him for a while, reports the Mirror.
United are set to lose Mbeumo for at least two matches in late December as he heads off to the Africa Cup of Nations with Cameroon. With Cameroon playing three group stage matches from December 24 to 31, Mbeumo is almost certain to miss United’s clashes with Newcastle and Wolves.
However, should his team advance further in the tournament, he could be absent for a considerably longer period. The Round of 16 is scheduled for January 3 to 6.
The quarter-finals take place on January 9 and 10. The semi-finals are set for January 14, whilst the final is scheduled for January 18. A third-place play-off is also arranged for January 17.
During this period, United face Leeds United, Burnley and a derby clash with Manchester City, presently pencilled in for January 17 but liable to alteration for TV. They’ll also contest an FA Cup third-round fixture on the weekend commencing January 10.
Mbeumo could be absent for all these matches should his nation reach the showpiece final.
Benjamin Sesko offered guidance
Another fresh recruit still finding his feet in Manchester is Benjamin Sesko. The 22-year-old forward arrived for £74m from RB Leipzig this summer and has managed just two goals thus far.
Given his underwhelming beginning, former United striker Dimitar Berbatov has offered some counsel.
“Be confident in yourself,” Berbatov remarked while addressing Sesko on the Rio Ferdinand presents YouTube channel. “Be arrogant in a way that you demand the ball from your team-mates when you make the run.
“When you make a good run, if the ball doesn’t come for you, say it or express it in a way that your team-mates will understand. That, ‘I am here. I’m making the run for you. Respect my run. Not every time but try to see me and believe in what I can do with that run.’
“Sometimes be angry. Scream, swear at him, whatever. [It’s] not personal. Half-time, before and after the game, speak. Sometimes I think the players need to be more aggressive and emotional, in a way like, ‘Pass me the damn ball, man!'”
