Patrick Dorgu “cannot be better,” according to the Denmark coach, who also acknowledges his regret.

anchester United wing-back Patrick Dorgu is set for a starting role with Denmark.

Patrick Dorgu is a regular in the Denmark international squad, but he is still battling to establish himself as an automatic starter.

Denmark manager Brian Riemer’s preferred starter is Joakim Maehle, the 28-year-old Wolfsburg star with 55 international caps.

For this week’s World Cup qualifier against Belarus, Maehle is unavailable and Dorgu is set for a starting role.

Speaking ahead of the game, Denmark’s manager admits that Dorgu deserves more opportunities.

He told Bold: “It’s Patrick’s turn. He’s a player who deserves more playing time than I’ve given him.

“Based on his achievements, he could have received more playing time.”

Dorgu needs to earn Riemer’s trust in big games

Patrick Dorgu only made his international debut in 2024, and has made 10 appearances, scoring twice.

Riemer says that Dorgu is good enough to be a starter, he has just not proven it to him in big game situations.

He explained: “There is no doubt about Patrick’s qualities. He is a player who has everything.

“His physique cannot be better, he is fast and aggressive.

“He has the whole package, but he is still a young man and therefore has not been in the difficult situations with decisive matches.”

Dorgu is still battling to win over Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim, after coming into the season as the starter at left wing-back.

The Dane has started six out of 11 games in the Premier League this season, but only one out of the five games on the club’s recent unbeaten run.

Riemer offers advice to Patrick Dorgu

Ruben Amorim’s tactics at Manchester United are different to the style Brian Riemer uses with Denmark, and his international boss has warned him about the necessary adjustment.

He urged: “He has to listen carefully when we train. When you’re young, you have to adapt. Because there’s a big change in how we play and then the way Manchester United plays.”

Dorgu did score during the previous international break, in a 6-0 win against this week’s opponents Belarus.

Riemer adds: “Patrick can, with good performances, cause me even more doubts in the future.”
