Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha has admitted that he harbours dreams of playing for another club.

Summer signing Matheus Cunha is on international duty with Brazil, recently starting in their 2-0 win over Senegal.

They have one more match upcoming on November 18, taking on Tunisia in a fixture to be held in Lille, France

And while playing in Europe is more convenient to Cunha’s travel plans to return to Manchester United, that has not stopped him wistfully talking about a club future in Brazil one day.

Matheus Cunha’s future plans

Matheus Cunha began his career in the Coritiba youth team in Brazil, before signing with Swiss side FC Sion in 2017.

And while he is perfectly happy with Manchester United, Cunha says he has a strong desire to end his career with a club in Brazil.

Speaking to Lance!, Cunha admits he would like to play for Brazilian club Vasco da Gama in the future.

He explained: “I’m very happy with the affection they (Vasco fans) have shown me, truly. It will be something really great for my career to play there, at Sao Januário.

“There’s something inside me, pulling me to play at Sao Januario one day.”

He explained that while he has family members who supported other clubs, Vasco were the Brazilian team he had always had most affection for.

“My childhood was a crazy rush, imagine, my mother is from Pernambuco, a Sport fan, my father is from Joao Pessoa, he liked Botafogo-PB and Flamengo, my grandmother and my uncle are Santa Cruz fans, so I had many teams.

Matheus Cunha has big responsibility at United

Matheus Cunha can have his pick of clubs in Brazil later in his career, perhaps even in a decade. He is still only 26, still approaching his peak years.

Cunha has a big responsibility at Manchester United, signing a contract that runs to 2030, with an option to extend by a further year.

He has played in 11 out of 12 games in all competitions for United this season.

Matheus Cunha will have an even bigger responsibility in the upcoming weeks, after striker Benjamin Sesko suffered a knee injury.

Sesko is out of action for around a month, which could mean Cunha shifts into the striker role.

Cunha says he is relishing the challenge of extending the club’s unbeaten run, which is now up to five games.
