Newcastle United latest news: Bruno Guimaraes has admitted he idolises Manchester United midfielder Casemiro

Bruno Guimaraes has revealed that playing alongside Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has helped develop his game on the international stage – with the Magpies captain now a regular under new boss Carlo Ancelotti.

If he can stay fit and continue to play well for Newcastle United, then Guimaraes is a shoe-in to not only represent Brazil at next summer’s World Cup, but also very likely to start in Ancelotti’s midfield. Guimaraes started both of Brazil’s matches during the most recent international break as Brazil beat Senegal and then drew to Tunisia in friendly games played in London and Lille respectively.

The Magpies captain partnered Casemiro in both of those games, with that pairing seemingly destined to lead out Brazil in the USA, Canada and Mexico next summer. With 82 caps to his name, Casemiro has great international experience, whilst Guimaraes is a relative newbie on the international scene having made 41 appearances for his nation.

Bruno Guimaraes on ‘idolising’ Manchester United man

The pairing of Guimaraes and Casemiro could be the road to victory for Brazil next summer – and the duo know each other well having spent a number of years in the Premier League. Whilst Casemiro joined Manchester United with huge fanfare following his time at Real Madrid, Guimaraes’ move to Newcastle United was a lot more low key.

Both have had their successes whilst in England and for the Magpies man, working alongside his Red Devil counterpart at international level has helped develop his game both at international and club level.

On his partnership with ‘complete player’ Casemiro, Guimaraes said: “Look at his experience, his titles… he’s a complete player. His career speaks for itself.

“In one of my first interviews with the national team, in 2020, when I arrived they asked if I was inspired by anyone in midfield, and I said his name, Casemiro. He’s also an idol there for everything he’s done, especially at Real Madrid, the five Champions League titles.

“A guy that everyone who plays in Brazilian midfield talks about, Casemiro is the guy we have to follow. So I think it’s a bit of everything, he’s a leader, certainly playing there as a number 8 is a position where I feel more comfortable, it’s a position I also play at Newcastle. I think it’s a perfect match and things are starting to go well.”

Guimaraes and Casemiro will lock horns twice before they head to next summer’s World Cup, with their next meeting in the Premier League coming in just over a month’s time when Newcastle United head to Old Trafford on Boxing Day. That game between Eddie Howe and Ruben Amorim’s sides will be the only Premier League game played on Boxing Day this year having been moved for TV coverage.

The Magpies completed a league double over Manchester United last season with a 2-0 win in the north west in December being followed by a 4-1 triumph on Tyneside in April. That double was the first time in Premier League history that the Magpies had twice defeated the Red Devils in the same season.
