A big Manchester United fan who is in an induced coma continues to fight for his life in hospital three weeks after suffering ‘life-changing’ injuries, having been hit by a car
Mason Mount has shown support for the family of a big Manchester United fan in Bolton who continues to fight for his life after being struck by a car. Mount has sent a video message to Lewis Rimmer’s wife, Sarah, and two daughters, Amelia and Maddison, in the aftermath of a Range Rover hitting him and causing ‘life-changing’ injuries.
He remains ‘critically ill’ in hospital after being put in an induced coma, his close friend Andy Tonge has told the MEN. Tonge described the message as ‘lovely’ for the family. The Bolton News quotes him as saying: “They’re big Manchester United supporters, so this was lovely to receive, what a guy.”
Mount is said to have shared his condolences and expressed his sorrow at hearing what happened to Rimmer. He also relayed that “everyone at Manchester United is thinking of them and sending all their love.” A fundraiser set up by friends to raise money for the family has received over £100,000 in donations.
Tonge has said: “The incident seems to have really struck a chord with people. It happened during half term, and it’s shocked so many because it could so easily have been a child who might not have been as strong as Lewis is proving to be.
“Many feel that Lewis’ strength and fight over the last few weeks is nothing short of remarkable.
“The fact that it took place at a local supermarket, used by so many of us, has created an even stronger sense of, ‘This could have happened to anyone of us.'”
