According to speculations in the German media, Man Utd is interested in signing forward Karim Adeyemi of Borussia Dortmund.
The Red Devils are allegedly “chasing” the 23-year-old, who may soon be leaving Signal Iduna Park, according to tabloid Bild.
The last 18 months of Adeyemi’s Dortmund contract are quickly approaching, and talks to extend it have not advanced.
The main sticking point is the demand from his agent, Jorge Mendes, that a £70m release clause be included in the new deal.
Mendes has a good relationship with United, having worked on deals for Leny Yoro and Manuel Ugarte, so he is likely keeping them abreast of Adeyemi’s situation.
A fallout with his manager could help Man Utd’s cause
The forward threw a water bottle after being substituted against FC Cologne last month, leading Kovac to question his maturity. There have been other incidents that have also strained the relationship.
It could lead to Adeyemi leaving Dortmund in January or at the end of the season if his problems both on and off the pitch can’t be resolved.
Adeyemi has been a target for several years
The Red Devils pursued the forward in 2022 when he was at Red Bull Salzburg. It was reported that they tried and failed to hijack Dortmund’s move for the player.
At the time, Adeyemi was said to be keen on returning to Germany after a stint in Austria, so a transfer to Manchester did not appeal to him. Things could well be different now, so we shall have to wait and see how things unfold over the coming weeks and months.
