Former TNT Sports pundit Paul Scholes has now revealed where he stands on the future of Manchester United and Brazil midfielder Casemiro at Old Trafford.
Casemiro experienced a career revival under Ruben Amorim and has since become a key Manchester United first-team player for the former Sporting CP head coach.
The 33-year-old Brazilian has been Ruben Amorim’s preferred pick for a midfield partner for Bruno Fernandes in the two-man midfield pivot this season.
Casemiro played a key role for the Red Devils in the second half of the 2024-25 campaign, including impressing in United’s run to the Europa League final.
The former Real Madrid star has made a strong start to the 2025-26 Premier League season and Casemiro has been consistent for the Red Devils in the campaign.
Paul Scholes’ stance on Casemiro and the Man Utd star’s contract situation ahead of becoming a free agent
Casemiro’s Manchester United contract will expire at the end of the current campaign and the Brazil international could become a free agent next summer.
The ex-Real Madrid midfielder is free to speak with clubs outside of England from January and could sign a pre-contract agreement ahead of becoming a free agent.
Casemiro has been linked with Saudi Arabia in the past and it remains unclear if United are willing to roll the dice and hand the Brazil star a new contract.
Speaking on his podcast, Paul Scholes believes that Casemiro will likely be ‘moved on’ from Old Trafford by allowing his United contract to expire in 2026.
“Look, Casemiro has been a great player,” he said on ‘The Good, The Bad & The Football’ podcast.
“I think he’s actually playing a bit better this year than he was possibly last year.
“I think you got to take his age into account. What is he now? 32, 33? I don’t know, I think they’ll probably move on after his deal’s done.”
Casemiro has started 10 of United’s opening 11 Premier League matches this season, with the midfielder only missing the Brentford clash due to suspension.
The Red Devils star has only played the full 90 minutes once in his 10 Premier League appearances under United manager Ruben Amorim in the current campaign.
United are expected to pursue a new midfielder in 2026 and could be keen to offload Casemiro’s mammoth wages from their books next June when his contract ends.
Casemiro, who arrived at Old Trafford in 2022, has netted three times and picked up one assist for the Red Devils in the Premier League this season.
