Ingredients

For the Bread:

  • 1/2 cup 1 stick unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk or 1 cup milk + 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

For the Cinnamon Sugar Topping:

  • 1/4 cup butter melted
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper for easier cleanup.

Mix the Wet Ingredients

  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and buttermilk.

Add the Dry Ingredients

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Pour and Smooth the Batter

  • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

Bake the Bread

  • Bake for 45 to 55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. If the top starts browning too early, lightly tent it with foil.

Add the Topping

  • While the bread is still warm, brush the top with melted butter. Immediately sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar topping generously over the loaf. Let it cool in the pan for about 10–15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
