Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • ½ head green cabbage chopped
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 can 14.5 oz diced tomatoes (with juice)
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Optional:

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce for depth of flavor
  • ¼ tsp crushed red pepper flakes for heat
  • Fresh parsley or shredded cheese for garnish

Instructions

  • Heat oil: In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil or butter.
  • Sauté onions & garlic: Add diced onions and sauté for 3–4 minutes until softened. Stir in garlic and cook for another minute.
  • Brown ground beef: Add ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned and fully cooked, breaking it apart with a spatula (about 5–7 minutes). Drain excess fat if needed.
  • Add tomatoes & seasonings: Stir in diced tomatoes (with juice), tomato paste, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, and any optional ingredients like Worcestershire or red pepper flakes.
  • Add cabbage: Fold in the chopped cabbage. Cover the skillet with a lid and let everything cook for about 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender but not mushy.
  • Taste and adjust: Uncover and give it a taste — adjust seasoning if needed.
  • Serve hot: Dish up immediately. Garnish with chopped parsley or a sprinkle of shredded cheese, if desired.
